Google confirmed the rolling out of a core algorithm update in December 2020 via their tweeter handle recently. And as it was mentioned in the announcement, the guidance by Google regarding the update still remains the same and hasn’t changed.

The recent Core Update marks the third core algorithm update of 2020. May 4th was the day the last core update rolled out and it was referred to as “Star Wars Day”.

It is most likely that the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the rollout of Google’s next core update as the recent update came later than usual.

As we all know, Google updates are one of the things that can really strike fear into the manliest of men including myself.

I have heard that the only fight Conor Mcgregor has ever turned down was actually against John Mueller of Google’s Search web search team.

It just goes to show you that people will seemingly fight against anyone who doesn’t want to take on the beasts on google.

And if you are reading this post, it simply means you have been hit by Google, your traffic dropped and you are thinking of what next to do.

Google confirmed the rolling out of a core algorithm update in December 2020 via their tweeter handle recently.

And as it was mentioned in the announcement, the guidance by Google regarding the update still hasn’t changed

So in this article here, we are going to be covering the things you should be doing if you have just been hit by the Google Core update, your traffic dropped,

What should you be doing now?. What should you be doing over the next couple of weeks, couple of months?.

And we are going to be looking at some of the traffic drops mostly experienced by a lot of
people.
So you have just been hit in the Google Core update and you have seen some traffic drops, you might have lost 10%, 20%, some people even say they’ve lost up to 80% or 90% traffic overnight.

Well, the first thing you should actually be doing is;

Stay Patient

It could be devastating if you have lost almost all your traffic but stay patient, stay calm, and do not panic.

If you rely only on Google for traffic and don’t do paid traffic or social traffic or anything of such, it is going to be very unlikely that you can tap into another source.

But if you can tap into another source then obviously you can look into doing that. But if you only depend on organic traffic you can’t suddenly go “Oh I know we will tap into the social media audience that we don’t have”.

So first things first stay patient these update often takes up to a week or two to fully update.

Sometimes sites that drop massively end up coming back or even gain more traffic so just stay calm and see where things end up.

Make your website/Content Trustworthy

This the next thing you need to be doing after your rankings are balanced out because making your website trustworthy is good even if you haven’t been hit in a core update.

There are so many ways you can go about making your website trustworthy technically, every single way you could possibly optimize or improve or market is going to add some sort of trustworthiness to your site.

Also having backlinks to your site helps you get more authority and trustworthiness. Another way to boost the trust factor isn’t just with content that you already have but it’s with the content that you don’t have.

For example, if you have a review site you need to provide the readers with content that is absolutely flawless, contains everything that the readers need to know about the products.

Here are a few suggestions on how to boost the trustworthiness of your website or content.

Be careful with the ad content that displays on your website. Ensure a domain name that warrants respect.

Make yourself available. Unique and original Contents Make it easy for customers to search your site.

Proudly display trust seals. Show off your warranties and guarantees. Clearly display your contact information and ensure you are using a custom domain name – not a subdomain

Display reviews and testimonials. Make sure you have an SSL certificate that shows that your site is secure

Backlinks

People say backlinks don’t matter but backlinks are absolutely very important and you need to work towards getting
higher and quality backlinks to your site.

This isn’t going to happen overnight and it isn’t something you can implement straight away you need to invest some
money into this or pieces of content that people might what to share.

Building backlinks is a long-term strategy but you are going to have to do it anyway. You can actually rank a website without backlinks but the tendency of the site staying around for a long time is very low.

So link building is very important and can help you recover in a week or two if you have been hit by Google.

Over the course of a year, if you are making all your content better, if you are making your website more trustworthy, if
you are building authority in form of backlinks, which is going to help undoubtedly.

Whether you are making one visitor per day or one million visitors per day your main goal should still be how you can make your website better and still drive more traffic.

So at times, it’s good you take your site, analytics out of the equation, take the drive out of the equation and think – How can I make this site better,

How can I make this post better, How can you make your content relevant even in the next couple of years. That is a type of mentality use should always try to adopt.

Conclusion

Now that you know What Webmasters Should Know About Google Core Update, it’s about time to put these things into action. If you don’t take action, you will not get the desired result.
