There are certain factors that play into whether you and your boyfriend/girlfriend will make it down the aisle. For a relationship to survive, it will need communication skills, teamwork, and even for you to be there for each other during the low moments. However, another thing to consider before tying the knot is age. So, how old do you have to be to get married?

In our world today, we have been conditioned to marry once we are through with college, or in some countries, immediately after high school. The culture has map for us and if we don’t follow this order, we feel that we are doing something wrong and will be left behind and ultimately alone in love.

How Old Do You Have To Be To Get Married?

According to some relationship experts, there isn’t necessarily a best age to get married but there is definitely a best time to get married. So, what is the best time to get married?

According to some relationship experts, the best time to tie the knot is when you feel comfortable and confident in your job and personal life. However, to some, the best time to think about marriage is in the late 20s when different parts of your life start to make more sense and you feel more stable.

Getting married in your late 20s has its benefits because, by that age, you must have completed your studies and get your career running and by then, you might be bored with the single lifestyle and feel eager to meet that special one.

A licensed clinical social worker Kelsey Torgerson says that “it is important to wait until your brain is fully developed i.e. at age 25 before you get married”.

According to Weena Cullins, a licensed marriage and family therapist the best age to get married for women is 28 because, at that age, many women exhibit self-awareness and confidence in their choice of mate.

Also, most 28-year-olds have had the time to explore who they are on a personal and professional level thereby, discovering the qualities they want most in a life partner, and might also learn from mistakes they made in previous relationships.

At 28, you have had the time to get settled in a career, experience college and graduate school, or simply live independently before tying the knot.

For men, the best age to get married is 32 says Cullins. At age 32, most men might have had their career running and possibly pursuing professional advancement before getting married.

By age 32, most men have spent enough time on the social scene to be able to make a decision about entering another phase of life.
