How to Open a Digital Safe If You Forgot the Combination
There are 2 ways you can open a digital safe without a combination.
1. The Reset Method
This method will take advantage of the weak spot that digital safes have and let you open the safe without much stress.
- A Flashlight: You’ll use the flashlight to locate the bolt openings at the back of the safe
- A long, slim stick: You’ll use this to press the reset button of the safe
- New code: You’ll use this to replace your old code but ensure that the new code is easy to remember but hard to crack.
Follow the steps to open a digital safe without a combination
Step 1: Search for the bolt openings at the back of your safe
Most digital safes especially the smaller safes, have a small hole either at the back or bottom portion.
The small holes are where bolts are fed through and you can use them to reset the code of the safe. Using your flashlight, you can look for these bolt openings or holes.
Step 2: Peer through the hole
Hold your flashlight to the bolt opening then peek through it and if your safe has a two-hole style, you can peek through the opposite hole.
Look for the back panel inside the safe where the electronic part of the safe is placed. The back panel is easy to see as it contains a keypad and a few other control buttons.
Step 3: Press the reset button
With the long, slim stick, slide through the hole and use it to press the red button in the keypad of your safe. In case you can’t a long, slim stick, you can use a straightened coat hanger or buy any stiff of wire in a nearby hardware store.
The set button is usually found beside the reset button. When you press it, you’ll hear a beep that’ll signal that you’re successful in replacing the safe combination.
Step 4: Set a new code
Next, enter the new code in the keypad located outside the door of the safe. Once you enter the new code, the safe will open but if it still fails to open, that means you may have entered the wrong combination on the inner keypad of the safe.
2. The Dial Method
This is the best method to use if your electronic safe has a dial.
- Rubber mallet: you can use this to hit safe.
Step 1: Turn the dial of your safe the wrong way
The dial of most electronic safes is turned clockwise. Whatever way the dial of your safe is turned, turn it the opposite way.
This move is done to ensure that the pin which is responsible for locking the sliding bolt will become free to move.
Step 2: Hit the safe
Use either your hand or a rubber mallet to hit the safe firmly. You hit the safe to move the pin which is obstructing the sliding bolt. Note that this effect will only last a few seconds.
Step 3: Turn the dial of your safe the proper way
Immediately after hitting the safe, turn the dial the right way. You’ll be able to turn the dial all the way around and open the safe if the pin is down at the time you were able to turn the dial.
