Gionee just launched its first ever smartphone that runs on Android Pie yesterday. The S8s happens to be the company’s first ever notch display designed device. Making Gionee to join the list of tech brands with the notch display design.
But what’s impressive about this newish device? Mntrends Tech presents you with the Gionee S8s review:
Although we’ve already written about our first impressions and specs but here’s a brief breakdown:
• 5.8-inches screen display
• Android 9.0 Pie
• Dual rear cameras 13MP + 5MP
• 5MP selfie camera
• 3GB RAM and 32 Internal storage
Table of Contents
Gionee S8s is so light with a simple body design. For now the device comes in two colors of your choice; Black and Gold. S8s has a notch screen display of 5.8-inches. The smartphone comes with a resolution of 720p, but its still manageable because of its decent price range. Apart from the notch, everything is standard – all the controls are on the right, both the volume rocker and the power button. On the left, is the dual-SIM tray and a microSD slot for if you want to expand the phone ’s internal storage.
Gionee S8s has three cameras – two 13MP and 5MP cameras on the back and one 5MP selfie camera on the front. So far, the both cameras are OK for pictures. Offering bright quality pictures, even though I would have wanted Gionee to add a little more color to it, but anyway it’s still good for its price range.
For the portrait mode on both front and back cameras, it’s a guess-guess game. The Gionee S8s will take pretty impressive portraits but sometimes fail. You’ll have to be patient enough to take the perfect portrait shot especially if you’re taking selfies.
Software and Performance
The Gionee S8s packs 3GB RAM and an internal storage of 32GB. I had no issues as they worked perfectly fine with my multitasking habits. The phone runs on Android 9.0 Pie which is very impressive. In fact, the device unboxing with an Android Pie is the one reason I am recommending this phone for a test out by users. Currently, Android 9.0 pie is the latest OS version until Android Q would possibly be roll out later in the year.
As impressive as the phone is, Gionee disappointed us with its battery capacity. Just 3,000 mAh battery. In this year 2019 when other manufacturers are making phones of nothing less than 4,000 mAh. Releasing an impressive smartphone like this with just 3,000 battery capacity, is a thumbs down for Gionee. Although, it’s a flash charging device. You can get 100% battery full life in just an hour charge.
With the Gionee S8s review so far, here is my conclusion on the smartphone. The device is impressive and affordable. At least, I wouldn’t have expected Gionee to first the likes of Infinix and Tecno to produce an Android Pie smartphone. So to me, Gionee surprised us with his fast software adoption. Main while, we shouldn’t ignore the battery flop too. But overall, I think Gionee S8s is still one of the best price range phone you can get this season.k
